What Is This Session About?

Creating media resources for learning has traditionally been a very time-consuming and expensive process. Generative AI such as ChatGPT has massively reduced the amount of time and effort required to create quality media resources for learning. Instructional designers and trainers can now generate text, audio, and video content for their courses without having to spend countless hours researching, writing, and dealing with complex media creation tools. This technology has revolutionised the way we approach designing learning media. Professionals without these competencies may find themselves at a distinct disadvantage. This course offers a comprehensive learning experience for trainers and learning designers who want to advance their instructional design practice with generative AI and media tools. Participants will explore the latest techniques and strategies for using generative AI to create effective and engaging multimedia learning resources, including infographics, audio, video, and animation. They will also learn how to design storyboards, develop branching scenarios, and evaluate and refine the generated content to align with instructional design principles and learning objectives.

Even more action! The course emphasises on hands-on practice and group collaboration, giving participants the opportunity to apply what they've learned in a practical setting.

Note: This is an intermediate course to Learning Design with Generative AI. If you have little knowledge or experience using AI for learning design and development, please consider signing up for the basic course: Jumpstart Your Learning Design with Generative AI! - A Hands-On Essentials Workshop first.

What Does The Session Cover?

By the end of the workshop, learners will be able to

Gain knowledge-based learning objectives such as:
  • Principles of effective storytelling, scriptwriting, and narration for instructional purposes.
  • Techniques for visualizing and planning instructional media through storyboarding and outlining.
  • Basic concepts and mechanics of branching scenarios, including decision points, feedback loops, and immersive storytelling.
  • Methods for evaluating and refining generated content to align with instructional design principles, learning objectives, and learner needs.
  • Functions and features of multimedia platforms for creating audio, video, and animation.
  • Ethical considerations and potential biases in AI-generated content, including strategies for addressing and mitigating these concerns.

Gain skills-based learning objectives such as:
  • Employ generative AI to accelerate the process of using storytelling, scriptwriting, narration, and outlining techniques to create instructional materials.
  • Leverage generative AI to assist in designing interactive learning experiences, using concepts like decision points and feedback loops in branching scenarios.
  • Use generative AI in conjunction with software applications to create, evaluate, and refine learning media such as audio, video, animations, and infographics that align with learning objectives.
  • Address and mitigate ethical issues and biases in AI-generated content to ensure a fair learning environment.
^ Assessment: Formative Assessment(s) (Assignments/Presentations/Practical Performances)

^ Completion: Upon 100% attendance and meeting Assessment requirement, learners will receive a Certificate of Participation from IAL (& other partners where applicable)
